School Election Information
Trustee Elections – There are seven members on the Great Falls Public Schools Board of Trustees who serve three year terms. Trustee positions are up for election annually. In 2015 one seat is up for election. In 2016 and 2017 three seats will be up for election each year. The election cycle begins again in 2018 with one seat up for election. If the number of candidates running for the open seats is equal to or less than the number of seats open on the board and the deadline has passed for write-in candidates to file, the election can be called by Acclimation. If no levy election has been called by the trustees, then no election will be held.
Levy Elections – Each year the district evaluates and determines the need for a levy election. A community budget process is advertised in which the community can learn about the financial position of the district. Topics covered generally include Macro Budget and Reserve Information, State & Federal Revenue projections, Estimates of Cost Increases and Earmarks, Legislative updates (during legislative years), along with other general School Budgeting information.
How to File – Interested persons may file for an open trustee position by obtaining the appropriate paperwork from the Cascade County Elections Office. For detailed information on filing for a trustee position, including the timelines for filing, see the Election Calendar for filing deadlines at http://www.cascadecountymt.gov/departments/elections
