Superintendent’s Message

As the holiday break approaches, please take a moment to give yourself a pat on the back.  Over the last four months, you have given your expertise and energy to our students and to public education.  Over the last few weeks, you have stepped up and leaned in to make Christmas a little nicer for students and their families.  Angel trees, food drives, adopt-a-family campaigns, food baskets, and the anonymous giving of gift cards are all common activities that take place behind the scenes in our schools during this time of year.  You have also given your hard earned money to help others through the GFPS Annual Giving Campaign.

Back in October, I asked more of you to give, and I asked those who had given in the past to give a bit more.  AND YOU DID!  I am excited to announce that we not only met but exceeded our goal and set a new giving record!!  644 (47%) of you (up from 44% last year) gave $62,933…exceeding our goal by almost $3000!!!  Since 2005, we have more than doubled our totals!  On behalf of the many agencies and their causes that will be funded with this money, I am extremely grateful to those who generously donated!  Please give a pat on the back to those who made this possible…the building champions and the principals who worked diligently and creatively out in the buildings, and to Campaign Coordinator Jody Murray.

As we celebrate our success and enjoy the upcoming holiday break, please take some time to relax, to put your feet up, and to give yourself another pat on the back for a 2018 well-lived.  Also, take some time to reflect on your work.  I hope you feel a sense of pride in the big and small things you’ve done to ensure the future of our students.  Lastly, please take some time to recharge.  2019 is on the horizon and I know that some of the days are going to be long and the work is going to be hard.  But I also know that our kids, our community and our future deserve our best.

So rest, relax, reflect and recharge!  Thank you for being a part of great schools, greater tomorrows and Great Falls! Happy Holidays to you and those you love.  My best wishes for a great 2019!

Take care.  Be safe.  Stay well.
