Finish Strong

The first semester of the 2013-2014 school year is in the books and we are already off and running into the second half of the year. As I was preparing to write this article, I took a quick look over the District’s Facebook Timeline as it provides a quick review of major events (
I was struck by the vast array of activities that were highlighted. It made me excited about the comprehensive program we offer our kids. It made me thankful for a myriad of partnerships that were recognized with our community. And it made me proud of the award-winning accomplishments that have been highlighted. If you have a moment, take a look for yourself. Be ready to be impressed!

After I took a moment to celebrate, I reminded myself to not get too cocky. There is still a lot of work ahead. I reminded myself that greatness comes from not only getting off to a great start, but also finishing strong. We have to be just as excited for the second half as we were for the first. So as we get pumped up for the next 90 days, I take us back to that first hour together during Convocation:
• If you don’t love GFPS, no one else will. We must ride for the brand.
• We can’t do it alone, but we can do it together. That means we foster community partnerships.
• Dance with the one that “brung” you. Public schools are public entities and need public input.
• Work hard. Play hard. There’s a reason it’s called “work”. Celebrate its outcomes.

So, in conclusion and in the words of a very successful basketball coach I know, “Let’s do this! Finish!”

Take care. Be safe. Stay well.
