FITNESS CENTER – will be closed the afternoon on Thursday, October 15, 2015
CIRCUIT TRAINING – Circuit Training will be starting at 4:15pm, instead of 4:00, beginning this week. Classes are held on Monday & Wednesdays.
ZUMBA CLASS – There will be no Zumba Class Tuesday, October 13 and Thursday, October 15.
YOGA CLASS – There will be no Yoga Class Wednesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 15, 2015.

What is LANGUAGE and How Do I Teach It?

When we think of language, many aspects of this phenomenon come to mind: grammar, vocabulary, sounds, and letters, to name a few. However, those elements only come alive when we attach meaning and purpose to the language act. The primary purpose of language is communication and relating meaning, therefore successful language instruction is based on activities where students are actively engaged in creating, sharing, and receiving meaning. Group and partner work allows ELLs to negotiate meaning in a sheltered, safe environment where they can use language to complete authentic language tasks. Encourage your ELLs to use the language everyday by speaking, listening, reading and writing, which will yield better results than worksheets.

In addition to teaching students, you also need to communicate with parents who may have different language abilities. If you need a translator, for parent-teacher conferences or any other parent-teacher interaction, contact Lisa Jahraus or Irina Payne ASAP!
