Indian Education Program Objectives:
The Indian Education program supports the efforts of the Great Falls Public School District to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indian and Alaskan Native students. The school district is comprised of 2 high schools, 1 alternative high school, 2 middle schools and 15 elementary schools. There are 1344 American Indian children representing 59 tribal groups enrolled in Great Falls Public Schools grades K-12.
Program Objectives:
- To identify Native American students in the Great Falls Public School District.
- To identify strategies and implement programs designed to close the Native American achievement gap.
- To improve math and reading skills at all grade levels.
- To reduce absences and truancy.
- To increase the participation of Native American students in extra-curricular activities.
- To provide a liaison for Native American students between school, home and community.
- To investigate and make use of all educational opportunities for Native American students.
- To provide a comfortable and productive learning environment for Native American students.
- To provide opportunities for students to investigate and participate in academic enrichment and post-secondary programs.
- To provide cultural information to students and teachers.
- To develop a positive parent/school partnership with parents of Native American students by providing opportunities for parent involvement in the Indian Education Program.
