The Care Program is the District's Student Assistance Program. Our mission is to provide an organized structure of support and prevention activities for students. We address social/emotional needs of students by responding to students who are experiencing significant life stresses that place them at risk for problematic behavior such as alcohol and other drug abuse, academic failure, delinquent behavior, or teen pregnancy.
Other student services offered by the Care Program include tobacco programs, grief and loss groups, growth and awareness groups, anger and conflict management classes, divorce groups, parenting classes, and special District and community presentations. Care Student Support Groups are in all high schools and are co-facilitated by staff, counselors, parents, or community members, all of whom are Care trained.
The Care Student workshop is a three-day event and is for students interested in learning more about alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or other health and social problems including grief, divorce, and eating disorders.
The Care Program coordinates the GFPS Crisis Response Team which comes to the aid of schools in crisis. The Crisis Response Team provides counseling for staff and students as well as serving as a resource for schools in crisis.
Students are referred to the Care Program by parents, staff, other community agencies, concerned persons, or self.
Staff services include Employee Assistance, staff training, and in-services. The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential counseling service provided to employees and their families to help address difficulties they may be experiencing in their lives.
The Care Program also hosts an Adult Training and is for educators, school support staff, parents, and other concerned community members who want the skills and knowledge necessary to volunteer for the Care Program.
