SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE

 STAFF, TRUSTEE, & MOM APPRECIATIONS

Across our country, the first full week of May is set aside for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. One week to thank all of you for what you do for our kids, our community and our future. It’s really not enough. I know how much energy and emotion you put into your work. I know how much you care for your District and for the children you work with. I know that day in and day out you pour your heart and soul into making a difference. Five short days of thanks isn’t enough, but please know that as I write these words, they are heartfelt and sincere: Thank you so much for all you do! I hope you are thanked by many others this week and for the other 51 weeks of the year as well.

I also want to thank the current members of the GFPS Board of Trustees. The only agenda of our current Trustees has been to support GFPS in our continuous improvement efforts. I am thankful for that commitment every single day. Tomorrow is Trustee Election Day. If you haven’t taken the time to vote, please do. Your vote is really one way to show appreciation to the citizens who want to serve their community in this way.

I also want to take a moment to recognize all the moms out there as this upcoming Sunday is Mothers’ Day. As they say, “There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one.” The moms I know come in all shapes and sizes, all kinds of temperaments and with all kinds of attitudes towards their children. In almost all cases, however, there is no doubt about that special love between a mom and child. Please know that I wish all the mom staff members a day filled with that special love.

I fondly call this last month of the school year “May-hem” as it is the busiest month of the year. It’s the best kind of busy because it is full of festivities. Each day brings special reasons to celebrate. Here’s to another wonderful Monday and another wonderful week in Great Falls Public Schools.

Take care. Stay safe. Be well.
Tammy

School Lunch Hero Day

Friday, May 6th, 2016 has been designated as School Lunch Hero Day in order to celebrate the efforts of the individuals who are employed in school cafeterias across the country. These staff members work tirelessly to ensure that our students have access to nutritious meals and come to class ready to learn. In honor of School Lunch Hero Day, Great Falls Public Schools would like to highlight the dedicated food service staff members and the work that they do in each of our schools.

School nutrition staff members are often among the first employees in a school building each morning. They arrive before the start of the school day to greet students while serving breakfast or to pack and deliver breakfast bags around the school. They prepare both hot and cold lunch options, and encourage kids to eat more produce by continuously offering a variety of colorful fruit and vegetable choices. Our school nutrition team collectively prepares and serves at least 2,200 breakfasts and 5,500 lunches every day!

To celebrate School Lunch Hero Day this year, students will have the opportunity to watch a webcast with author and illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka, the creator of the Lunch Lady graphic novel series. He will be teaching drawing lessons and sharing stories about school nutrition heroes around the country. Teachers can stream the webcast, which will be broadcast online at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Friday, May 6th.

We hope faculty, staff, and students take the time to recognize the awesome job their school’s food service staff is doing during the week of May 2nd-6th, 2016!
