Inappropriate Sites
The use of the District network and the Internet is for educational purposes only.  Educational refers to curriculum related activities
All students and staff shall not access sites that:

            ■ contain pornography

            ■ contain inflammatory or hate material

            ■ contain illegal materials

            ■ contain games or gaming information

■ contain muds, moos, blogs, listserves, chat rooms, etc., that are not sponsored by a Great Falls public school.

E-Mail/Chatting
Students are prohibited from using e-mail; this includes District e-mail accessed through a web browser.  E-mail access may be given to students on a case-by-case basis (e.g., foreign exchange students keeping in contact with home).  Students are prohibited from joining chat rooms, unless it is a teacher sponsored activity.  Board Policy 3612

 Hacking
Users shall not infiltrate or “hack” any computing systems or networks.  Examples: the release of viruses, worms, or other programs that damage or otherwise harm any computing system or network.  Users shall not disrupt a system or interfere with another’s ability to use that system (e.g., by sending “e-mail bombs” that cause a disk to fill up, a network to bog down, or a software application to crash).  Board Policy 3612.   In addition, it is a violation of BisonLibrary policy to engage in “pinging,” unauthorized P2P activity, or using any library computers to enter any computer system to make unauthorized changes.

Inappropriate Use
Users shall not use the District computer network to:

            ■  Purchase goods, solicit sales or conduct business for personal use (e.g., by posting an advertisement to a news group).  Users shall not set up web pages to advertise or sell a service.  Board Policy 3612.

Crediting Sources
Remember that plagiarism is using another’s work and claiming it as your own.  Keep in mind that failure to cite the source is plagiarism…even if you do not actively claim that the work was your work.  Omitting credit is an act of plagiarism because you leave the reader or viewer with the impression that the work is yours because nothing says it is not your work. Any time you use the work of another person, whether it is written words, ideas, paintings, photographs, music, etc., you must identify the source of that work.
