Assessment/Implementation Statement

Grade Five

The Board of Trustees adopted Harcourt  and Nystrom materials for the purpose of implementing the Social Studies curriculum. The assessment components for grade 5 include the use of text-based, criterion-referenced tests which measure the learning objectives found in the GFPS Curriculum Guide.  Daily Geography (GROW) can be utilized as supplemental instructional material for the adopted curriculum.

Classroom instruction can be supported through the use of American documents, Gazetteer, the almanac, the biographical dictionary, and other sources of information in the back of the teacher’s edition.

Unit tests are required.  A score of 70 percent is considered satisfactory.  Test data will be collected on LXR.  As students prepare for unit tests, teachers should direct students to the chapter and unit review pages and study guide pages. These provide a summary of the key ideas, people, and events.
