K-6 School Counseling Program
National
Standards and Student Competencies Grouped by Academic, Career, and Personal/Social Domains Structural
Components Program Components & Processes Rationale The School Counseling program is
based upon the National Standards developed by the American School
Counselor Association. The standards
represent the essential elements of a quality and effective school
counseling program, striving to support the academic mission of the school
by promoting and enhancing the learning process for all students through an
integration of academic, career and personal/social development. We believe: All
students deserve to acquire the skills, attitudes and knowledge offered by
academic discipline that will prepare them to be effective in the world of
work and to become responsible citizens. All
students deserve to be supported by an educational process that promotes
positive relationships, trust and social/emotional health. It follows that the School
Counseling Program: Is
essential to all aspects of the educational process and supports the
mission and vision statements of the school district. Is
the part of the educational process that helps with the child’s “heart and
soul” work so they can do the “head” work of academics. The School Counseling Curriculum: Skills to the Future Prevention Structured
